CEFIXIME TRIHYDRATE IP 200MG & CLAVUNATE POTASSIUM DILUTED IP 125MG
Cefixime Trihydrate and Potassium Clavulanate Diluted Tablets – A combination of antibiotic medication prescribed for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. This formulation combines the broad-spectrum antibacterial activity of cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, with potassium clavulanate, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that enhances the effectiveness of the antibiotic against resistant bacteria.
Together, they help manage infections affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, ear, nose, throat, and other susceptible bacterial conditions. This combination is generally recommended when infections are caused by bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, making them resistant to ordinary antibiotics. Acinom Healthcare sold this combination under the brand name NOMXIME-CLAV.
The tablet works by targeting the bacteria responsible for the infection while preventing bacterial resistance mechanisms from reducing the medicine’s effectiveness. The mechanism is described below:
Cefixime Trihydrate
The tablet belongs to the third-generation cephalosporin class of antibiotics. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Preventing the formation of peptidoglycan cross-links that provide structural strength to the bacterial cell wall.
As a result, the bacterial cell wall becomes weak and causes bacterial cell rupture, leading to the death of the bacteria.
Potassium Clavulanate Diluted
This acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It binds irreversibly to beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, preventing these enzymes from destroying cefixime.
This protective action allows cefixime to remain active against bacteria and extends its antibacterial spectrum.
Together, the two ingredients work synergistically to eliminate bacteria, reduce bacterial resistance, improve treatment outcomes, and lower the risk of recurrent bacterial infections when taken as prescribed.
This combination antibiotic is widely prescribed because of its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.
